thanks michelle, byn for visting.

b: yes, great trip. the juxtaposition of rich and the poor that depend on it had an impact on me as i drove home each night to my swanky villa in the mountains. i went on many adventures on very bad roads in a little jimmy and saw a fair amount of CR.

my absolute favorite activity was kayaking in the pacific. i can think of few things that have calmed and addressed all aspects of my sometimes complicated insides like those hours in the ocean.

my experience of the men and treatment of women was not great. cr, i suspect central america generally, is not even a little bit evolved in that way. as a fair, single american woman traveling alone i couldn't keep a low profile for the life of me. much attention, harassment. next time i will remember to bring a man with me as a woman should. :)

on about the fourth day i figured out how to thoroughly enjoy it there. often how it is with a foreign land...

yes, next time you should bring me to act as your machismo-deflector!

Where did you go in CR, I was just there in March and fell in love with the whole country. We were more up in the mountains, Monteverde, Santa Elena but I would like to go the coast

Carrie, I flew into Liberia and stayed on Playa Hermosa. I travelled to to Playa Coco, Playa Ocotal, Playa Coco, Playa Negro, Playa Avellena and some others. I also went to Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. I really wanted to make it to Palo Verde to see the wildlife there but didn't make it.

I would like to see Monteverde as well. I'd be interested to see your pictures if you can send a link?

pat, hello!

around 3/4 of the population is catholic per lonely planet, but i can't say i had much sense of that at all in my explorations. you'll be fine at christmastime. my guess is they want your money on every day of the year given their economy's dependence on american tourism. but maybe you should ask someone who knows...

vacation was good for me. upon return i am now getting a life...and (got) a dog.

i'm so glad to be chatting with you!
